Taughannock Falls State Park

trumansburg, New york

Our venue

About 10 miles north of Ithaca, Taughannock Falls State Park lies on the western shore of Cayuga Lake, one of New York State’s Finger Lakes. The 750-acre park extends from the lake into the surrounding hills, following the path of Taughannock Creek and the high-cliffed rock gorge it carved over time. Hiking trails allow access to the park’s three falls, its namesake Taughannock Falls, the tallest single-drop falls east of the Rocky Mountains, the 100-ft drop Upper Falls, and 20-ft. cascading Lower Falls.

The park’s lakeshore area, which hosts CLX 2024’s activities, is located off Rte. 89/Taughannock Blvd. It offers scenic views across, to the north, and to the south of Cayuga Lake. Facilities include a boat marina, pavilions and picnic areas, restrooms, a swimming area, and several launch areas for small craft as well as fishing access. Admission is a $9 fee per vehicle per day. New York residents who have an Empire Pass may enter for free and other admission program rates are available to eligible participants. For directions and a map, please scroll further down this page.

Several locations in the park are reserved for the weekend. The lakeshore area east of Taughannock Creek (gold in the map below) is the main observation area where participants and visitors may watch the race starts/finishes and enjoy the lakefront view. Parking area one (yellow) is just to the south. North of parking area one and on the southeastern edge of the observation area is the Central Shelter, where registration, meals, and coffee will be located on Friday and Saturday. Bathrooms are available in a nearby comfort station.

The boat launch area (purple) is near by at the southern end of Taughannock Beach, south of the swimming area. Nearby is parking area two (yellow). Small boat racers may prefer to park there on Sunday to be closer to the launch area. Boats will launch from the beach, then proceed north around the shoreline to the starting line across from the timing tent. Clubs trailering OC6s to the race should go to the main grass area in the middle of the park (blue) to unload and rig.

The Taughannock Falls State Park offers rental cabins and camp sites, which are located in separate areas just up the road from its recreational area. Reservations are available through ReserveAmerica.com. For other housing accommodations, the Inn at Taughannock Falls is a four-star hotel overlooking the park. The nearby Village of Trumansburg has several bed and breakfasts while Ithaca, which is a ten/fifteen-minute drive south, has a number of hotels. Local residents often list places, including some on Cayuga Lake, on AirBnB. Spruce Row is a private campground and RV park just south of Taughannock that offers cabins as well as camp and RV sites. A variety of camping locations and sites may also be found on HipCamp.com.
